A painful and sometimes inflamed area on the ball of the foot often located under the second to fourth metatarsal heads. This problem is sometimes caused by a neuroma or fibroma over or adjacent to a metatarsal head. Metatarsal pads,chiropody felt, soft padding,, orthotics or insoles and rest can be used to treat the condition and you should wear appropriate laced up footwear. ProLyne Technogel Metatarsal pads can be particularly effective. Please note that inflammatory conditions such as this can often take many months to resolve. If the condition persists seek professional advice from your Podiatrist (Chiropodist). Ball of foot pain can also be caused by corn or callous and is usually treated either with insoles, chiropody felt or gel metatarsal pads. If a neuroma is diagnosed and palliative treatment is unsuccessful surgery should be considered.
