Corns (Heloma Durum)A thickened area of skin, usually over a toe joint, between the toes or sometimes within a callous on the ball of the foot or the heel. Corns can sometimes be complicated by nerve endings and blood capillaries migrating into the callous. After enucleating chronic lesions can often have fibrous tissue lining the cavity. Rarely corns can become infected when the surrounding area becomes tender or inflamed. In these cases professional advice from a Podiatrist (Chiropodist) should be sought. Chiropody felt is useful as a padding material to relieve the pain from shoe pressure on digital corns. For corns on the ball of the foot chiropody felt, insoles, pedigel pads and Prolyne Technogel metatarsal pads can be invaluable in the relief of pain.
