Athlete’s Foot (Tinea Paedis)
A common fungal infection in the skin, mostly found between the toes. The skin is almost always itchy and can be flaky, sometimes mascerated (rubbery and wet) and in severe cases cracks and bleeding can occur. Athletes Foot can generally be resolved by :
- Wearing cotton or woollen socks which are changed daily
- For several months using a specific anti-fungal cream such as clotrimazole or terbinafine and continuing use for at least 4 to 6 weeks after the skin has returned to normal.
It is common for Athlete's Foot to recur in which case the treatment should be resumed.
